Abstract
Currently, advances in veterinary medicine allow us to classify many diseases with high incidence in mountain areas, which have considerable economic consequences for cattle breeders. Hypodermosis is one such disease, particularly prevalent in the Carpathian and Subcarpathian regions of Romania. While this disease occurs in many parts of the world, it has a higher incidence in Romania’s hill and mountain areas and a lower incidence in the southern regions. Hypodermosis causes significant economic damage, including losses in the leather industry, a reduction of more than 10% in milk production, and weakened animals with lower slaughter yields. From a veterinary perspective, the costs of treating and managing affected animals are also substantial. However, due to effective prevention and control measures, the prevalence of Hypodermosis in Romania decreased to 0.31% in 2023.
