FOR AUTHORS

Types of Papers

If you are submitting a manuscript, you may submit it in one single Word file, including the body text, figures, and tables. The only other file required will be a cover letter, which should include acknowledgments and figure credits (see below). If you are submitting a revised version of a paper, you must include figures and tables within the main text. The available templates can be used to prepare the manuscript. Please note that submissions must conform to these instructions and technical guidelines, or they will be returned to authors for proper formatting.

Please follow the guidelines for any papers that you wish to submit.
The guidelines can be downloaded here:

Cover Letter

In the cover letter, please indicate the purpose of your paper. Also, include information about the aim and importance of the results. The cover letter should contain acknowledgments (if applicable) and information about the authors of the figures (e.g., “Figure 1: Photo by Ana Lot” or “Figure 2: Map by John Sam”).

Upload the cover letter as a “Cover Letter/Acknowledgments” type file. This will not be included in the PDF for reviewers.

Originality

Authors of J-MONT articles are responsible for obtaining written permission to publish or reproduce any copyrighted material from the copyright holders. We use Similarity Check, a plagiarism screening service, to verify the originality of content submitted for publication. Participating publishers analyze submitted manuscripts using iThenticate software, which checks submissions against millions of published research papers, documents on the web, and other relevant sources. Submitted papers are not retained in the Similarity Check system after they have been checked. Manuscripts with overlapping text are flagged for review by editors, who will further investigate to establish the reasons for matches and identify cases of scholarly misconduct. Please confirm that all co-authors have read and agreed to the submitted version before we can process your submission.

Authors are required to sign the author statement before the manuscript is considered for publication.

Author statement can be downloaded here

Copyright

Authors agree that their work will be published in J-MONT subject to the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License. The copyright for the articles is retained by the authors. Once an article is accepted for publication, the corresponding author will be asked by email to confirm all authors’ consent to these terms (the so-called “author release agreement”). If your paper includes any previously published material, note that it is the author’s responsibility to obtain written permission to publish or reproduce any copyrighted material from the copyright holders.

Authors who submit articles for publication affirm that their work does not violate any existing copyrights and agree to hold the publisher harmless in case of any such violations. To facilitate easy distribution and ensure effective oversight, papers and contributions will be copyrighted by the publisher by default unless otherwise specified.

Articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License CC BY 4.0

Under the CC BY license, others are allowed to distribute, remix, modify, and build upon your work, even for commercial purposes, as long as proper credit is given to you as the original creator. This license is the most flexible and is recommended for maximizing the dissemination and utilization of licensed materials.

Dual Publication

Papers submitted to J-MONT must not have been published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. During the submission process, authors are asked to confirm that the results, data, figures, or any significant part of the text in the manuscript have not been published elsewhere, including on the internet, and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are alerted to the fact that they must not submit their manuscript elsewhere once they have submitted it to J-MONT. If any part of the submitted material has been or will be published or submitted elsewhere prior to publication in J-MONT, the authors must point this out to the Editors. This also applies to material previously published or submitted in a language other than English. Should the Editors find out that significant parts of a paper submitted to J-MONT have been published elsewhere prior to publication in J-MONT, even though the author confirmed that this is not the case, the paper will be rejected.

J-MONT is very much in favor of authors circulating their papers at conferences and on their own and institutional websites. However, please do so only once your paper has been published. Authors should be aware that conference organizers sometimes publish contributions online prior to the conference. If you submit a paper as a contribution to a conference after you have submitted it to J-MONT, please inform the conference organizers that they must by no means publish it online prior to its publication in J-MONT, and that they must afterward acknowledge that it was first published in J-MONT and indicate the correct citation.

Authorship and Responsibility

All contributors to J-MONT must assume full responsibility for the contents and opinions expressed in their writings. Before the submission of a manuscript, the corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have seen the version of the paper that will be uploaded. Contributors must also assume responsibility for checking the accuracy of all numerical material and references, as well as non-English quotations and names. All submissions are routinely screened for potential plagiarism using Similarity Check. Plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) will not be tolerated. Should the Editors find out that significant parts of a paper submitted to J-MONT have been published elsewhere prior to publication in J-MONT, even though the author confirmed that this is not the case, the paper will be rejected.

Conflict of Interest Statement

The authors should disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence their work. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. If there are no interests to declare, please mention “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Use of AI in Scientific Writing

Where authors use generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, authors should only use these technologies to improve readability and language. Authors must disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by adding a statement at the end of their manuscript in the core manuscript file, before the References list. Statement: “During the preparation of this paper, the author(s) used [NAME TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.” This declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc. If there is nothing to disclose, there is no need to add a statement.

Author Contributions

The paper should display author(s) contributions to the manuscript for the following roles: Conceptualization; Data curation; Formal analysis; Funding acquisition; Investigation; Methodology; Project administration; Resources; Software; Supervision; Validation; Visualization; Roles/Writing – original draft; and Writing – review & editing. Note that not all roles may apply to every manuscript, and authors may have contributed through multiple roles.

Authors are expected to meet the following criteria:

Any other individuals who have contributed to the study should be acknowledged, but they should not be identified as authors.

Authorship Change

Authors should carefully consider the list and order of authors and provide the final list of authors at the time of the initial submission of their manuscript. Any addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be requested prior to manuscript acceptance and must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief. To request a change in authorship, the corresponding author should submit the following to the Editor-in-Chief:

In exceptional cases, the Editor may consider requests for changes in authorship after the manuscript has been accepted. However, if the manuscript has already been published, any approved changes will result in a corrigendum, and publication may be temporarily suspended while the Editor reviews the request. The Editor, after evaluating the reasons for the proposed change in authorship, reserves the right to refuse such requests.

Institutional Review Board and Consent Statements

Please add the Institutional Review Board Statement and approval number for studies involving humans or animals. Please add “The study was conducted according to the guidelines of the Declaration of Helsinki, and approved by the Institutional Review Board (or Ethics Committee) of NAME OF INSTITUTE (protocol code XXX and date of approval).” OR “Ethical review and approval were waived for this study, due to REASON (please provide a detailed justification).” OR “Not applicable” for studies not involving humans or animals.

Any research article describing a study involving humans should contain the informed consent statement. Example: “Informed consent was obtained from all subjects involved in the study.” OR “Patient consent was waived due to REASON (please provide a detailed justification).” OR “Not applicable” for studies not involving humans. Written informed consent for publication must be obtained from participating patients who can be identified (including by the patients themselves). Please state “Written informed consent has been obtained from the patient(s) to publish this paper” if applicable.
