Abstract
The current pandemic context generated by COVID-19 and the rapid mode of transmission and evolution of the virus have highlighted the importance of addressing a healthy lifestyle through a balanced diet. Under the insolation conditions imposed by the authorities to reduce the risk of disease transmission, an important role was played by gardening practices, which contributed to the well-being of the population, especially in rural areas, where gardens have become an important element in food production and the creation of recreation spaces.
This paper is based on the bibliographic study of the importance of family gardens, with the purpose of highlighting their value. These gardens of small sizes have various social, economical and environmental benefits and have played, traditionally, an important role in food production and maintaining biodiversity.
Family gardens are also an important element in mountainous regions, these areas being considered fragile, characterized by fragmented parts of land, limited in terms of mechanization by the slopes and altitude, because it contributes to landscape modeling and ensures the production of quality food in small areas.
